Photoshoot in Amsterdam: 5 ways to stay relaxed during your shoot

Photoshoot in Amsterdam –

Hi! This is me, telling you that you CAN be comfortable in front of the camera and even have fun! But not too much fun. This is serious business you know. Also, there’s nothing more frustrating than investing in something you need and then to be disappointed in the outcome. I;m here to set your mind at ease and tell you: You can relax during your photoshoot AND get some seriously epic photos in the process!

A short quiz for your photoshoot in Amsterdam:

  • Do you feel uncomfortable in front of the camera?
  • Don’t know how to express yourself?
  • Have trouble relaxing, posing and knowing where to put your hands?
  • Are you self-conscious about how you look?

Answered yes to all of these? Believe me, I get you!

How we show up in pictures has to do with how we are feeling inside more than how we ‘think’ we look on the outside And of course you can’t change the way you feel on the inside with a snap of the finger. But if I can take away just a fraction of the anxiety you might feel during the shoot, then it’s already totally worth it!

I want you to be super comfortable during a shoot and actually feel happy and empowered from the whole experience.

Tip 1: Keep it comfy

A lot of people think a photoshoot means putting on a lot of make-up, buying new clothes and basically transforming into a Kardashian for a day. This is absolutely not true! There are ways to make your photoshoot feel close to home, comfy and relaxed, without going through great lengths to change your entire life.

1: Literally keep it close to home. A home photoshoot is fun and relaxed, and you’re in your comfort zone!

2: Don’t buy new clothes. Pick you absolute favorite outfit. I promise it’s good enough for the shoot. Wear those jeans and sneakers, your favorite sweater or hat. After all it’s you we want to capture!

3: Totally wear make-up if you want to! But don’t do anything too drastic or out of the ordinary. It will give you a confidence boost knowing you’re looking good and feeling comfortable during the shoot

Tip 2: Breathe

Yes I know you breathe automatically. And like me, you’re now probably hyper aware of your own breathing and don’t really know how to breathe normally HELP!

I often find myself holding my breath, and that can tense up my entire body. I’ve seen this happen in photoshoots as well!

Here are a few tips for during your shoot:

1: Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

2: Continue to loosen up by rolling your shoulders up and back, move your head side to side, and then…shake it all out!

3: If you find yourself freezing up, reset and repeat this process. I don’t mind! This is a great way to center yourself before a close-up, or just tell your body to calm the feck down.

Tip 3: Keep moving!

If you feel stuck or stiff, start walking, do a little shimmy or jump up and down — do whatever you need to do to get energy moving! I’ll even do it with you!

Also, when being photographed, if it’s anything other than a straight on headshot for your LinkedIn profile you don’t need to always need to be looking directly into the camera.

Moving your body shows me different angles and postures. Because I look at them very closely during the shoot, I will eventually use them to help you along the line to keep the photos authentic and candid. I will usually say “You just did this EXCELLENT this with your hands, do it again! I love it!”

My style of photography is free flowing. I love to tell a story and showcase your unique quirks – which involves you just being yourself. Your authentic nature will shine through and reflect the real you!

Tip 4: Visualize!

This is a great exercise to do even before your photoshoot starts! The day before the shoot, take a quiet moment moment and try and visualize yourself standing in front of the camera.

What are your doing with your hands? What’s your body doing? Are you moving or standing still? My advice is the first thing that comes to mind, is usually the thing that comes most natural to you.

Think about how you would like to see yourself in the photos. Do you want to look happy, serious or a mix of both?

Just by doing this small exercise of visualization it will take away a lot of the anxiety. As a result, you’ll feel more at ease during your shoot, because technically you’ve already done it before!

Tip 5: Go with the flow!

There’s only one thing to remember during your shoot: TRUST ME!

Trust me to take the lead and what to do next. Trust me to give your the absolute best photos possible.

Once you’ve done that, you can let go and not have to think about what to do next. That’s all on me! I’ve been doing this for so many years and know exactly what I want to get out of the shoot. I will walk you through everything that we’re doing. You’re like a little hedgehog, warm and safe in my pocket. Is that weird?
