Destination Wedding in Crete

Oh my, I don’t even know where to start with this one. I can talk about the beautiful wedding venue, set in Spilia Village. Or the gorgeous and warm Cretian weather, that hugs you like a 35 degree blanket. Or the abundance of hearty Greek food and drinks. Or above all, that this was the most epic and beautiful wedding I’ve ever photographed. Ok yes I’ll start there.

You might remember Grace and Ben from their city hall wedding back in 2020. They had such big and beautiful plans to get married in Amsterdam. Unfortunately Covid threw them a big curveball and as a result (after the 5th cancellation) they decided to have a party in Greece. And boy, did they.

The day started slow

Grace and Ben are relaxed and easy going, and wanted their wedding day to reflect that. They had a slow morning hanging with friends by the pool, and by the afternoon, they started to get ready. When it was time to go to the altar, they were separately escorted by Greek musicians and their wedding party.

Heartfelt speeches were given by both sisters of the bride and groom, which resulted in a few happy tears. After the beautiful ceremony, everyone had champagne and snacks, and made their way to the outside restaurant for a Greek feast.

The day ended way too fast

Once the family photos were done Grace and Ben joined their guests at the restaurant. I had to wipe away a few tears after the beautiful speeches from friends and family, which were held between the 10 course dinner. Different plates of Greek food covered the table every 20 minutes. It was an absolute dream. However, a few uninvited feline guests decided to make a move for the unattended food. Luckily I had my camera ready and took a photo that became one of Grace’s favorites from the day.

After dinner, the party started with a bang. Music is very important to Grace and Ben, so they each made a playlist to play throughout the evening. An excellent midnight snack, in the form of Gyros (filled with meat and chips) were waiting for guests at the end of the night

What can I say. This was the best wedding ever.
